Particle effects are fun!
This is the result of a couple of days' work (and a couple of nights' rendering for my poor old computer). I'd love to know what you think.
EDIT: Changed the video link to the 1080p60 re-render.

Wow! Very nice and pretty close to the original intros. I'm not certain how well the darker tone would work for the show though.

I admit it is a bit more... serious, I suppose, than the existing intro, but the audioplay doesn't shy away from horror themes.

I think it would make a perfect intro for a more serious episode like the ones about Tick Tock and the war. Or maybe even for Discorded Whooves

It's simply the tone of the MLP tune that plays over it that I think is a bit too dark for some of their lighter episodes.

All in all, I think, with the direction the audio play is going, this should fit well. Like a second OP mid season of show.

I've been doing a bit of tweaking to see if I can re-render this at 1080p60... only to find that the vortex alone would take 20 hours to render under those settings!

Ouch. Do you have spare computer that an run it? Just have it running for a couple days to render everything, literally in the background?

You can tell Blender to limit itself to one thread, and my computer has four (i3-2100), so it's just a case of leaving it on overnight and when I go out during the day. On the one hand, that means it'll take even longer... but on the other, I won't have to use my radiator for a while.

LOL. I can relate to that. And I didn't know I could set Blender to limit itself.... I feel like every time I mess with that program there's a new world of options and systems I had no idea about.

And finished! The entire sequence has been re-rendered at 1080p, 60 frames-per-second. I've also put a bit of spit-and-polish on the vortex effect. The video above now reflects the new version, or you can click here compare the two side-by-side.
