I watched my first episode of Doctor Who (it was Rose) awhile ago and while I found it interesting one thing bugged me, the weird editing. The show plays out like a drama/action show and a comedy had a child and the child had an identity crisis. Does this ever stop being a problem?

The series gets better with each episodes. There are come episodes where the cgi was really messed up like the ep about the slevyn family. *shivers* ohhhhrrghhh that was a bad one. But whe David Tennant takes the role of the doctor the special effects get way better.

Well, you see, the guy who ran Doctor Who at the time (Russel T. Davies) mostly did sitcoms, so that might explain the tone. I always felt the RTD era felt very off too. At least when compared to the previous ones. (The Moffat Era now still bugs me, but in a different way)

The slevyn characters themselves, or at least their alien forms, were actually practical effects. Meaning they weren't CGI at all but actual costumes!
Doctor who, as it was in the old days, was infamous for having the best special effects for British tv at the time. There was no CGI involved, of course, only practical effects. They still try to stay true to this, even in the Moffat era with most aliens being done in costume and make up instead of being computer generated, though the CGI itself does improve a great deal, especially when you get around to Matt Smith's Doctor when they had a bigger budget to work with. New Who did NOT start off with a fair budget.
If you guys want to see a really KICKASS make up and costume job the show has done, look up the Empress of Racnoss. She is a spider alien and there was no CGI used with her at all. Its all make up and robotics and from a productions stand point it is something to drool at. Like hot DAMN.

That's the spider creature Davit Tennant's doctor faces with Donna right? It did look awesome and that was also one of the most epic scenes of David Tennant. His eyes were so cold and he watched them drown that it gave me shivers.
