I've been on the forums for a little while now, but I might as well introduce myself. My name is John, I'm a computer science student and a classical musician. I've mostly been active in the Fan Content section; I just finished a new title sequence complete with an original theme tune, and I'd love to know what you think. You can find it here.

Well, welcome John! Nice to meet you. Hopefully GoGo and I can keep this place somewhat sane. If you don't mind my asking what instrument do you play? I'm a French Horn player myself.

Oh! Impressive. My little brother is going to the University of Houston for a double major in bassoon and computer science, coincidentally. I love meeting fellow musicians! Who would you say are your favorite composers? Any from this era or are you more of a fan of the classics?

Who would you say are your favorite composers? Any from this era or are you more of a fan of the classics? I like a bit of both, actually. A lot of my favourites come from the pieces I've been fortunate enough to play in. My absolute favourite - at risk of being slightly cliché - is Holst's Planets Suite. As for this era, I like a lot of soundtracks: John Williams, Murray Gold, Nobuo Uematsu and Harry-Gregson Williams, off the top of my head.

I gotta admit my first time hearing the Planets Suite changed my life. Music's a huge passion and influence on my life and that Suite will forever be in my memory. I will say I love Shostakovich, mostly because of the way he treats his French Horns. John Williams and Murray Gold are a couple of my favorites as well. Hans Zimmer may be a bit over rated but I still enjoy most of his music as well.

Right, back on my computer now. Do you mind if I dump a load of links? 'Cause now I wanna dump a lot of links... +1 for Shostakovich. Waltz No. 2 sounds like it could be in The Godfather. Key point. Do not feed the Matoal. But if you have any food, I would very much appreciate a sandwich No sandwich, I'm afraid. But we've got drinks now if want one.

Yay! Dumping: Sibelius' Finlandia and Holst's Ode to Death both have a similar soundtrack-before-soundtracks-existed feel to them. Bliss' Checkmate is the same, but with added bonkers. Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 1 takes it up to eleven - playing it is like fighting a boss battle where the opponent is the music. The Negro Dance from Nielsin's Aladdin Suite is also fun, if a tiiiiiny bit racist. Maslanka's Symphony No. 4 is more eclectic than bonkers, but it is oh-so-good. Aaaand... it's a bit unlike the rest of these, but A Story Told from The Count of Monte Cristo is great fun. And there's a pony version! ...Formatting on these forums is odd.

Formatting is weird, I still haven't figured it out. And it's cool to see that you relate music kinda the same way I do. I always envision short films or video game scenes when I hear music.
Finlandia is one of my favorites and I'm in love with A Story Told from Monte Cristo. That and I'm just an uber fan of anything to do with The Counte of Monte Cristo. I even loved the anime rendition of it. XD
Sibelius' pieces always have me imagine older Disney films like Fantasia except more powerful and with darker themes. I need to check out this other ones.

I always envision short films or video game scenes when I hear music. Yes! All the time! I've not actually seen The Counte of Monte Cristo, but the trailer for that anime version has me intrigued. The textures on the hair and suits aren't actually mapped to the shape that's weird. Also... is this cyberpunk? Fantasy? It looks like a bit of- daf** is that moon... The names of the pieces are all links to YouTube videos. A lot of them make for great background music if you do any coding or whatnot.
